DDPAI Dash Cams

DDPAI N5 Dual Dash Cam

For the Miata, I wanted a dash cam that does its job without cluttering the already small windshield. This is what I’m currently using — a compact dual dash cam setup that records front and rear without getting in the way.

Why I Use This

I specifically went for this because of the no-screen design.
At first, I was actually quite hesitant — especially for night driving, since I’m used to seeing a display. But from past experience, I realized the screen is rarely useful after setup, and it just takes up space.
In a car like the MX-5, where every bit of windshield space matters, going screenless actually makes more sense. It keeps the setup minimal and less distracting.
Another big reason is the ADAS features. The MX-5 ND2 doesn’t come with built-in ADAS, so this adds an extra layer of awareness:
  • Front vehicle start alert (super useful when queuing)
  • Fatigue driving alert
  • Collision warning
  • Lane departure alert
It’s not something I rely on fully, but it’s nice to have that extra assist.

How I Use It

It’s mostly a “set and forget” setup. Once installed, it just records automatically whenever I drive.
I only check footage through the app if needed — otherwise, it runs quietly in the background.

What I Like

  • No screen = cleaner setup, fits better on a small windshield
  • 4K recording gives clear footage when needed
  • ADAS features add extra awareness while driving
  • Dual cam setup (front + rear) for full coverage
  • Optional radar module for parking surveillance

Anything to Note

If you’re someone who prefers having a live screen (especially at night), this might feel uncomfortable at first.
Also, ADAS is helpful, but I treat it as a support feature — not something to fully depend on.

Some Tips

For dash cams, the SD card actually matters more than people think. I’m using the SanDisk High Endurance MicroSD Card (128GB) for this setup.

MicroSD Card Selection

Dash cams are constantly recording and overwriting footage, so normal SD cards wear out quite fast. High endurance cards are built specifically for this kind of usage.
  • Designed for continuous recording (dash cams, CCTV)
  • More durable over long-term use
  • Less risk of corrupted footage when you actually need it
I’d suggest going for at least 128GB or above, especially if you’re recording in 4K.
