Sonax Profiline Fabric Coating
After cleaning the soft top, this is what I use to protect it. It’s basically a fabric coating that adds a water-repellent layer, so rain and dirt don’t stick as easily.
Why I Use This
Cleaning alone isn’t enough — the soft top will get dirty again very quickly if there’s no protection.
This is the “protect” step after using a cleaner like Meguiar’s. It helps:
- Keep the top looking darker and fresher
- Prevent water from soaking into the fabric
- Reduce how fast dirt builds up
For me, it completes the whole process: Clean → Protect → Maintain
How I Use It
I only apply this after the soft top is fully cleaned and completely dry. My flow:
- Clean the soft top properly
- Let it dry completely
- Apply evenly using a sponge/applicator
- Let it dry and cure
After applying, I make sure the car doesn’t get wet for a while.
What I Like
- Strong water-repellent effect (water beads and rolls off)
- Helps maintain the colour of the soft top
- Slows down dirt buildup
- Works on other fabric surfaces too
The coating creates a strong hydrophobic layer (water beads instead of soaking in).
Anything to Note
Preparation matters a lot here.
If the surface isn’t properly cleaned, the coating won’t bond well. Also, this is not a “quick spray” — it’s more of a proper treatment step.
Some Tips
After cleaning the soft top before coating.
1. Always apply after cleaning
This should never go onto a dirty surface.
- Cleaner first
- Then coating
2. Make sure the top is fully dry
Applying on a damp surface will reduce effectiveness.
3. Let it cure properly
- Avoid water for at least 1 hour (minimum)
- Longer is better if possible
4. Heat helps durability
Sunlight or warm conditions actually help the coating perform better.
5. Treat this as maintenance, not weekly use
I only reapply when I feel the water repellency is dropping.
